Top 5 Most Preserve Foods in the World

Before the invention of the refrigerator our ancestors used to preserve foods by drying, cooling or salting but some foods have lasted for centuries to come.

So here are 5 most preserved foods that lasted for centuries.

1. Roman Wine!

Roman Wine

This Roman Wine is special because it’s found in two tombs in Germany. The reason why this wine survived very long is that the corks used to cover this wine comes from wet olive leaves.

Though this wine might be 1,600 years old however the alcoholic content is long gone so the taste of the wine is waxy and silty. If you are going to drink the wine, be sure to drink it with a Roman Chalice.

2. Wanli Beef Jerky

Wanli Beef Jerky
Beef Jerky may look like a casual food for long hiking trips but there is one found in Wanli, China which made over 2,000 years old.

3. Green Bone Soup
Green Bone soup
An entry again from China, except this is one is found while digging for an airport in the province of Xiala. The soup is stored in a Bronze cooking pot and was still in its liquid state.

Also, the soup is over 2,400 years old and contains Gomes. As good as it sounds for Archaeologists, I don’t advise eating it.

4. Irish Butter Barrel!

Barrel of Butter

About 3,000 years ago, in Ireland someone left 77 pounds (34.93 kg) of butter in a wooden barrel. The barrel was found in a Kildare bog which sank into a peat but the butter is still intact and was extracted back in 2009.

However, it has lost its creaminess and the butter has turned into a white wax-like substance called adipocere.

5. Egyptian Tomb Cheese!

Egyptian Tomb Cheese

Egyptian Pharaohs would bury food besides them in the hopes that they can bring it to the afterlife and one of them is Cheese.
